「花ひらく想い」 "Blossoming Feelings"

Twitter でだったと思うんですが、第 12 話の象徴となるローダンセやガーベラ（他、ライブ会場のフラワーロードの花々もですかね）は 果樹系ではない のに、エピソードタイトルの英訳には blossom が使われているという指摘を目にしました。気づいていませんでしたが確かにそうですね。

blossom は桜や桃など果樹の花、bloom はバラ・菊などの観賞用植物*1 を指し、一般的な花には flower*2 を使います。

そして 3 単語は全て「（花が）咲く」という動詞としてもはたらき、比喩的な意味でも使われるのですが、ここでどうしてblossom なんでしょうね。

調べたのですが、名詞「花」の意味では線引がなされていて区別が付きやすい一方で、比喩的な「咲く」だとどうにも境界が曖昧で違いが理解できず、手持ちの辞書を全部引くことになりました……。（次項に記してあります）

語義の説明量や例文を眺めるに、比喩の「咲く」では blossom が一番意味が広く、また使われやすい傾向にあるのかなあと感じました。個人の能力や努力が形になる場合 に用いることが多そう。あと、唯一 beautiful という意味が含まれているのが印象的です。

逆に flower はかなり硬くて重い単語みたいですね。文化や国家、事業のような 大きな物事 が栄えたりうまく行ったりする場合かな。

bloom は動作動詞というよりは 状態動詞的に 使われることが多そうです。「成功する」「いい状態になる」ではなく、「成功している」「いい状態にある」といった文脈で。

となると、個人の「想い」が今まさに開いた、開こうとしている場合には blossom が一番ふさわしいと？　それだけの理由なんでしょうか。なんともつまらない結論で終わってしまいそうですが――。

せっかくなので 一つ妄想を垂れ流しておく ことにしましょう。

一般の草花 flower は花が咲いたら「綺麗だね」であとは散るのみですね。一方で果樹の花 blossom は「見て綺麗」の後には 実がなります。そこがポイントだったりすると嬉しいなと思うんですよ。

このお話で歩夢はやっと動き始めることができました。自分の気持に向き合って前へ進みだせた。

けれど、進みだした、だけなんですよね。それまでのフワフワした地に足がついていない感じはなくなっても、どこまで、またどうやって歩いていくかは本エピソードでは定まっていなかったはずです。「みんなのために歌う」とは、ファンの声に応えることを決めただけですから。ただ耳を傾けるならそこに主体性はありません。聞いた上で、どうしたいかを自分で考える必要がある。

応えると決めたのは、分かれ道からさらに進んでいくための 大事な一歩 です。歩夢にとって大きな意味をもつことでしょう。「花ひらく」と表すのも納得ですね。ですがその一歩目の「花」で終わってしまっては困ります。咲いた「想い」をアイドルの形にまで成してこそ、わざわざ幼馴染と別れて進む意味があるはずです。

さて、そういった状況を踏まえた上で。

歩夢には、この後に彼女らしい アイドルとしての結実 が約束されている。*3  たとえばそう考えるならば、ここでの「開花」に blossom を使うのは素敵だと思いませんか。
